An intimate gaze. A joyful laugh. A quiet pause. These images capture the emotions that run through
a couple’s wedding day with reflections from the photographers and the story behind these special moments.

The bride gets up on stage and sings with the band! I could photograph this energy endlessly! Photo and caption by Brendan Bullock Photography.
Reception energy is electric and when people hear a song that causes them to all spontaneously start singing and throwing their whole bodies into the action, I love to get right in there and make sure to capture the expressions and tone of the moment. In this case, the bridesmaid’s were singing to each other, back and forth. They knew every word and were totally in sync with the song. It was so much fun! Ending the perfect wedding day with a grand exit—sparklers lighting up the night, but nothing shining brighter than their love. Photo and caption by Tayla Paige Photo.
The dance floor is always a great time, and we love when couples embrace the love and energy that surrounds them toward the end of the night. It makes for great photos and adds another layer to the storytelling element of their gallery. Photo and caption by Renaud Film and Photo.
At the end of a beautiful warm sunny summer day, Steph and Jake exited their wedding reception surrounded by sparklers and all of their favorite people. The most loving and magical send-off for the special bride and groom! Photo and caption by Eva Alexandra Photo.
A bride is beautiful from every angle on her wedding day. I had noticed the light in the staircase of the family farmhouse, and I thought it could make for a nice photo, but I just didn’t know what at the time, so I filed it away in my mind. When it came time for the bride to descend downstairs for her first look, I let her pass by in front of me and snapped this photo as she carefully walked down, waiting until her head was just perfectly framed in the doorway before clicking the shutter. The bride was so calm and collected when a hurricane knocked out the power to their venue. She stands by a mirror using window light as she waits to walk down the aisle. Photo and caption by Courtney Caroline Photography.
Let’s hear it for the newlyweds! So much happiness and cheer at this sunny summer wedding. Photo and caption by Katelyn Mallet Photography.
A bump to remember! Photo and caption by Kim Chapman.
Throughout the wedding day and particularly during less structured times, my observing nature really kicks in. SO often friends and family have been apart for a long time and the pure joy of being with each other is just irresistible. It’s impossible to NOT want to document that happiness and love, like this moment with the bride’s friends who flew a distance to all be together. Photo and caption by Rachel Bell Photography.
The couple steal a big joyous kiss on the dance floor. This couple was so much fun and so sweet and they radiated joy and laughter all day. It is the best when you can see that your couples are truly in the moment on their wedding day. Photo and caption by Emily Dalameter Photography.
This photo is so fun, I wanted to capture the combination of beautiful cocktails and sweet interactions during cocktail hour. Photo and caption by Kelly Stevens Photo.
A friend of the bride and groom brought his vintage MG to the wedding as a post-ceremony getaway car. Right after the ceremony, they bundled into that gorgeous forest green car and took off for a 10 minute drive, just the two of them. As they were driving down the long road, with dust blowing out behind the car, they were waving to everyone with huge smiles on their faces. Any time a couple can take some alone time to just BE together, during their wedding day, is great for them to connect and get to experience the emotions together. Hands. My favorite thing to photograph. The lines, the stories, the emotion. So much to such a simple concept for a photo. Photo and caption by Katelyn Mallet Photography.
There’s nothing better than a classic black and white portrait of the groom and groomsmen all in their bowties and jackets. Photo and caption by Renaud Film and Photo.
The best moments are unscripted… At the end of the night, the couple’s driver took them on a slow loop of the driveway to bid farewell to all of their guests. After their best Royal waves they gave the audience the farewell kiss everyone wanted. I love all of the faces in this one – especially the driver and the bridesmaid. As a wedding photographer, there are moments that feel almost magical—where light, emotion, and setting align perfectly. This image captures one of those moments: the bride and groom, alone in the castle archway, sharing their first look before the ceremony. First look moments are deeply personal, offering couples a quiet space to connect before the whirlwind of the day begins. It’s a chance to share excitement, calm nerves, and take in the significance of the moment together. For me, it’s also an invaluable opportunity to document raw, unfiltered emotions in a setting that feels natural and intimate. With the time and freedom that a first look provides, I was able to capture this serene, romantic image—one that tells the story of anticipation, love, and the beginning of their new journey together. Photo and caption by Eye Sugar Photography.
I actually love toasts at weddings and look forward to them each wedding. Many times, I don’t know what is being referenced with a particular memory but the stories always show the depth of love, history and connection people have with the couples. I love capturing the reactions of the couples as they hear the stories or are on the receiving end of their loved ones emotions. Photo and caption by Rachel Bell Photography.
One of our favorite parts of photographing weddings is capturing the in between moments that hold so much emotion. With Olivia and Amanda’s last private dance of the night we were able to capture how much love they were feeling at the end their most special day! Photo and caption by K&L Photography.
Sunset time. This time of day has a hush about it that is almost magical. In that quiet, there’s a moment where you get to connect, tune the rest of the world out, and realize it’s the two of you. Getting to spend alone time with each other, at this time of day, is filled with emotion, happiness and an almost tangible reverence for just how lucky we are to find one another. Photo and caption by Rachel Bell Photography.
The bride’s parents look on as the couple has their first dance. Capturing not only the couple and what they are doing, but also the reactions of their family and friends is one of my favorite things to do during the ceremony and reception. Photo and caption by Emily Dalameter Photography.
Get me to the church on time! Photo and caption by Kim Chapman.
I love seeing a couple’s personality shine through in all the small details on their wedding day. How gorgeous is this 70s-inspired dress with a hand-embroidered veil? It was perfect for a late fall wedding at Barn on Walnut Hill. Photo and caption by Michelle K. Martin Photography.
This is a quiet, intimate moment with a bride as she nervously fumbled with her earrings before her first look. It’s an honor to be allowed to witness the softer, quieter side of these big celebrations, and allowing our subject to forget about us as we blend into the background helps us get these little moments that speaks volumes. Photo and caption by Magic Arrow Photography.
When photographing a wedding, I often think of location as character, especially in Coastal New England. Here, the bride is getting ready in her parents home on Prouts Neck, and everything that is inside the home, hanging on the walls or sitting on end tables, has meaning and significance to her and her family. In fact, the bride’s parents were married thirty years earlier in the same church where her wedding is about to take place in just a few hours. Her wedding day becomes just one more piece of the family history that has unfolded in this special location for them. Photo and caption by Nadra Photography.
Many doors, one journey. Photo and caption by Kim Chapman.
There’s a tradition associated with the buttons down the back of a wedding dress. The bride cannot button herself up, so traditionally the task is done by someone special to the bride. During this moment, the loved one has time to share, reflect, advise, or support. All the bride can really do is breathe and relax. Photo and caption by Antoinette Photography.
Clara chose to get married at her parent’s lake house – she took a moment for a breath before heading out for the ceremony, I couldn’t resist this window light and the symmetry of this long hallway. It was extra surreal to see it was lined with all her childhood photos. I wonder if this moment will make the wall of fame as well? Photo and caption by Studio Nouveau.

The final touches. This bride takes a moment before walking down the aisle. It’s special to find these quiet moments throughout the busyness of a wedding day and be able to look back and remember what you were feeling in these moments. Photo and caption by Antoinette Photography.
This was such a sweet moment when one of our brides got to see her mom all dressed up for their wedding. Both of the brides were surrounded by so much love and it was evident just how much everyone adored them! This bride is one of those people who just lights up a room and draws people to her, and her joy just radiates out from this image. Photo and caption by Rachel Bell Photography.
This image makes me laugh every time I see it! The bride’s gorgeous veil was sooo long and we had some wind blowing that day. She had to hold it back from her face because it would constantly blow back, which would start a fit of laughter each time. Right after this shot was taken, we were doing her bridal portraits and the wind literally wrapped her up in her veil like a cocoon. She was laughing so hard, while trying to claw her way out of it, that we (groom, myself and second photographer) all had to help her out of it. Of course, we got a few great shots before putting the cameras down! Photo and caption by Rachel Bell Photography.
While this bride was getting ready in a room full of mirrors, I was able to catch her mother watching over her in a reflection. I love that this photo tells the story of their relationship in a non-traditional way. Photo and caption by Courtney Caroline Photography.
You never know what kind of weather you will get in Maine on your wedding day, and I loved that Devon and Miranda fully embraced it. They walked from their ceremony downtown to the ferry boat that would cruise around the bay for their reception and were so joyful together that the rain didn’t matter. Photo and caption by Michelle K. Martin Photography.
Capturing the bride putting on her shoes can be a great moment to get intricate details of what she is wearing, from her shoes, to her ring, to the small complexities in her dress. Photo and caption by Renaud Film and Photo.
Bridesmaids hug the bride after the ceremony. I love quiet moments like this. Weddings often have an element of fantasy, but this feeling of love and connection between friends is powerful and real. Photo and caption by Brendan Bullock Photography.
The bride got married on a hot and humid August day, but had prepared appropriately by having custom made paper fans for her guests. Here she was after the ceremony getting her dress bustled, planted firmly in place on the ground, and unable to move while a bridesmaid worked on her bustle. Sweating in the sun, she began to fan herself, when another bridesmaid, her sister, came to help add to the mix by fanning her from another angle. I saw the light shining through their fans and I knew I had a good opportunity for a photo. Photo and caption by Nadra Photography.
This moment was right after the couple returned from a short drive around in a vintage MG that their friend lent them for after their ceremony. They had just hopped out of the car and we’re getting ready to go back and greet their family and friends. Before they did that, they had a few private moments to catch their breath and hug on each other. Every time the groom would kiss the bride, she always had the sweetest smile and little giggle. Photo and caption by Rachel Bell Photography.
In this quiet pause, she’s fully here – the world slows, and for just a breath, she holds all that this day means to her.

These were super close friends of the bride’s and after all waving arms in the air, happy squeals and I love yous, the bride wanted a portrait with them. Before I took the portrait, I couldn’t resist just letting them enjoy time with each other and interact as the hugs and laughs were so contagious. Photo and caption by Rachel Bell Photography.
The bride chose to get ready with her close friends and family at the groom’s grandparents’
house, which added more personal touches to the entire story. At this point, the bride was
getting her own camera ready to take a picture for her two friends and I thought that was a very
special moment for them to remember. Photo and caption by Lushi Song Photography.
They’ve found a kind of peace in each other that’s undeniable, a quiet connection that doesn’t need words to be understood. Photo and caption by Felisha Lees Photography.
Capturing the grand moments at weddings is a natural part of the day, but it’s the in-between moments—the fleeting emotions—that truly tell the story. Like a mother’s tears during the speeches at this candlelit reception at The Nonantum Resort in Kennebunkport. I love capturing these small, beautiful, fleeting moments that might otherwise be missed. Documenting the small moments along with the grand ones allows me to tell the full story of the wedding day. This was an incredibly sweet moment. We were in the church waiting for the ceremony. The groom was in the back hallway and his mom went to see him. This is her reaching out to him moments before he is married. Photo and by Kelly Stevens Photo.

The bride and bridesmaids got ready together in the Salem Waterfront Hotel but the bride waited to put on her dress privately so she could have a first look with her bridal party. The bridesmaids’ expressions perfectly capture their excitement for the glowing bride. Photo and caption by Courtney Caroline Photography.
The bride and groom decided to do a completely private First Look and vow exchange. I was fortunate to have a second shooter so we could capture both the bride and groom’s reactions to each other. I love how their hands wiping tears mirrored each other perfectly as they both got emotional during their vows. Photo and caption by Courtney Caroline Photography.

This is a moment of peace and ease, when this bride catches her gown in the breeze. A wedding day can sometimes feel so busy, and a simple moment of calm allows this bride to shine in her natural element. Noticing small moments like this helps give a final gallery bigger scenes of beauty and honesty. Photo and caption by Magic Arrow Photography.
Our brides had just been officially married and we walked out into the woods for some sunset images with the two of them. They both just radiate love for each other and love for enjoying time together. This image was taken as they were dancing and spinning each other around. As they were trying to figure out how to spin out and spin back in, they would bump into each other and then start laughing. It was a moment that was just filled with so much joy! Photo and caption by Rachel Bell Photography.
We just arrived at the Museum of Science after leaving the church and the excitement of the trolley. The setting was beautiful and the wind picked up Lauren’s veil. I love how the veil blew right between them adding motion and mystery to the shot. Photo and caption by Kelly Stevens Photo.
Colleen cannot contain her enthusiasm for her soon-to-be husband during portraits, grabbing his face for a kiss before their wedding celebration kicks off. These two have such a playful relationship – they spent the day making one another laugh and smile. You can feel their deep friendship, it’s a pleasure to be around. This bride and bride share an intimate moment in the vintage car they had at their wedding. With the commotion of a wedding day it’s nice when the couple is able to step away and share a moment together. Photo and caption by Antoinette Photography.
We prompted Olivia and Amanda to simply face each other and take in the moment before they head off to their reception. Watching these two, silhouetted against the breathtaking sky, soak in their love in this private moment was nothing short of magical! Photo and caption by K&L Photography.

It’s always a great moment when the couple enters the evening’s festivities as husband and wife. Whether they make their entrance loudly or quietly, the party begins to center around them and everyone is so ready to show their support and excitement. I’m a total and complete sap for first glances with parents. It’s one of my absolute favorite parts of a wedding day! As a mom of three, I can feel the mix of awe, pride, joy, love and a little bit of “how did my baby grow up so fast?” when I see the parent’s face. It’s so relatable and emotional. Even after all these years, I still get choked up while photographing these moments. Photo and caption by Rachel Bell Photography.

This couple opted to exchange vows privately before their day began. They were completely alone at their ceremony site overlooking the Beverly Marina. There are so few intimate moments on a busy wedding day. It was really special that they could focus entirely on each other. Photo and caption by Courtney Caroline Photography.
Mara and Alex had their first look and exchanged private vows before heading to their ceremony. We had just a few moments together before the bustle of the day began, but this was taken just after they exchanged private vows and were laughing together while we waiting for their friends and family to arrive. I love the way couples casually cozy up together, their hands intertwined in a way that is unique to them. I’m always focusing on this point, because I think it tells a story of its own about connection. Photo and caption by Katelyn Mallet Photography.

An impromptu first dance to a song on the lobster boat’s old FM radio was the option that this couple had for music, and they really went with the flow and did a little swing dance as they bobbed over the waves back to shore. Photo and caption by Katelyn Mallet Photography.
This is what happens when you’re roaming around a property and combine a very adventurous, fun-loving couple with a found pickleball court. Wedding day round of pickleball? Definitely would never turn that opportunity down. Why, yes, please! Photo and caption by Rachel Bell Photography.
It’s always such a blast when people congratulate and want to celebrate a newly married couple. The people on this boat invited our couple to hop on board with them. They happily did! They danced, laughed and played Titanic King of the World…and we got unique and amazing images that were completely unexpected! Photo and caption by Rachel Bell Photography.
Colleen + Erik steal a moment alone on a dock during their welcome dinner, and turn on their best model looks. It’s nice to carve out time during bustling events just for the two of you – it slows time, allows you to savor your own party and it’s fun to watch your friends and family enjoying themselves. Photo and caption by Studio Nouveau.
This image was an “is the coast clear?” moment as the bride’s dad was getting ready to usher her and her bridesmaids through the barn, without being seen by anyone, on their way to line up for the ceremony procession. It was a fun series of images that captured the pre-ceremony anticipation as he peeked in, looked left, right, all around and then proclaimed they were all set, before everyone came jogging through. When there are toasts or spontaneous group cocktails/shots, I love to be photographing from different angles such as on a chair or elevated in some way or from the ground looking up. It really allows for catching the facial emotions and energy of that very quick moment. Photo and caption by Rachel Bell Photography.

They were tucked away in their own little bubble, the rest of the world fading into the background. I couldn’t help but pause and capture this moment—the quiet intimacy of them together, still so full of love even in the midst of the hussle and bussle of the day. Photo and caption by Tayla Paige Photo.
The moment before the bride walks down the aisle is always so full of anticipation. I was standing inside Luke’s Lobster with all of Devon + Miranda’s people when Miranda and her father crested the steps outside as they made their way to the ceremony. It was such a special moment with everyone watching them through the windows. Photo and caption by Michelle K. Martin Photography.
Sheila + Pat had their day their way. A sweet elopement on the cape at Baxter’s with champagne and raw bar. This moment was on Sheila’s shot list – it was important to get the Hyline cruise ship memorialized. A special connection and homage to her dad who had just passed. I’ve had the privilege of photographing this wedding as well as both of Sheila’s sisters’ weddings. I love this whole family. Photo and caption by Studio Nouveau.
Josie and I always try to show some context to the location or venue when we take portraits with the couple, and the perfect time to do that is to capture an image like this with the couple in the moment, reflecting on their day with one another. Photo and Caption by Renaud Film and Photo.
Oftentimes, when we have sunset couples time together, I like to find little nooks and crannies where the couples can sit, walk or just be together, without a camera right in their faces. In this image, we found a private spot, away from the reception, and then I tucked myself way back in some shrubs. I just gave the couple the cue to just chat with each other as if it was any regular day…then I captured whatever unfolded. This is one of the sweetest couples I have ever photographed and they just talked, laughed, leaned into each other and snuggled. It was so clear that their love for one another goes very deep. Photo and caption by Rachel Bell Photography.
I am always intrigued by kids at weddings. This moment in particular has some magic that can
travel forward to the next thirty years and show us that they might be invited to each other’s
wedding as part of the wedding party. I believe time will give us the answer as well as an
image. Photo and caption by Lushi Song Photography.

I absolutely loved this moment as it was completely unexpected! We were on our way back to their reception and all just chatting and casually walking together, when all of a sudden the groom said, “hop on” and after a little confused look on the bride’s part, she hopped on and then he bolted into a sprint with the bride holding on for dear life…both of them in tears from laughing so hard. I loved this couple so much for their vivacious spontaneity and their “yea, let’s do that!” sense of adventure! Photoand caption by Rachel Bell Photography.

Kids at weddings are always fun to watch for photographs because you never know what they might do — they’re often dressed in fancy clothes they’re not used to wearing, and it can lend for some mishaps. Here, the flower girl had been playing with the rose petals in her basket, scattering them on the ground, only to be reminded by the adults that they had to be kept in the basket for the walk down the aisle. I caught her as she knelt down to carefully gather the petals, catching a good view of her identifying floral crown. Photo and caption by Nadra Photography.
The late fall light at Barn on Walnut Hill cannot be beaten. I love this celebratory moment of Emma + Adam as they walked out of their ceremony in the grove of trees towards cocktail hour. Photo and caption by Michelle K. Martin Photography.

Post-cocktail hour sunset moments with a couple who was overjoyed to be married. It was a gorgeous night with a spectacular sunset out on this dock at Pepperrell Cove. The groom was looking out at the water while the bride was being photographed. This moment happened right before he realized she had turned to look at him. When he looked back at her, his face just lit up! It was one of those “how lucky am I?” looks where his expression gave away all the love he was feeling inside. Photo and caption by Rachel Bell Photography.
This couple was so fun to photograph. They eloped on top of Cadillac Mountain in Acadia. As we were taking some bride and groom portraits the fog rolled in and it created such a soft, moody backdrop. This was such a genuine, intimate moment between them- it seems the sweetest moments are those unprompted. Photo and caption by Antoinette Photography.

Body language can speak volumes. These two naturally fit so well together I had to capture the way the two of them were when they even just sat close to each other. Photo and caption by Kelly Stevens Photo.
I actually love toasts at weddings and look forward to them each wedding. Many times, I don’t know what is being referenced with a particular memory but the stories always show the depth of love, history and connection people have with the couples. We just wrapped up our couple portraits at Paine’s Creek Beach and the newly weds were
walking slowly right in front of me to their car. I noticed that they were so in present with each
other, laughing, talking and making gestures that made the scene so intimate yet romantic. I
called the bride’s name and that’s when I clicked the shutter. Photo and caption by Lushi Song Photography.
During ceremonies, I absolutely love to capture the family and friends as they watch the couple in front of them. There are so many little side stories going on. This image was taken with a telephoto lens, croached far back in a corner and shot between the bride and groom at the altar. This is their daughter and the groom’s mom. As his mom was focused on the vow exchange, their daughter had been a bit fussy. The woman sitting next to her was trying to cheer her up and make her smile. She was watching the woman and trying to decide how she felt about the goofy faces she was making. Photo and caption by Rachel Bell Photography.
This image captured the moment that my sweet couple were being announced at their reception. As they stood outside the door, they looked at each other and then, one at a time, they kissed each other’s hands, took a collective deep breath and then turned to face the opening door. A celebration of light and grain. Photo and caption by Kim Chapman.
This bride and groom were very outgoing and surrounded by so many friends and family. I loved all the positive energy that swirled around them. This particular moment was a tiny, quiet breather that found the bride alone, putting on her shoes and then just sitting looking out the window, right afterwards. Her quiet reflective moment was a contrast to the flurry of people coming and going. Photo and caption by Rachel Bell Photography.
When we have sunset time to go out and do some couples portraits, I always love to walk just a little behind them, when we are heading to where we’re going. It’s great to get some candid images of them talking to each other, holding hands, looking around and also (like in this image) when they are talking with us and look over their shoulder. It’s a quick unscripted moment and capture. Photo and caption by Rachel Bell Photography.
When we captured this image of Mike and Kyle we wanted to freeze this timeless moment against the beautiful backdrop. Sometimes during the chaos that surrounds a wedding day, you need to take a moment to pause and take in the surroundings! Photo and caption by K&L Photography.
Connection is such a powerful storyteller. The way the groom holds his bride and locks his eyes on her is what every partner dreams of. It’s as if he’s completely unaware of the crowd behind him. Focusing on connection helps encapsulate their bond within this frame. Photo and caption by Magic Arrow Photography.

Photo and caption by Rachel Bell Photography.
Good times were had and felt by all. The energy of this frame helps a couple remember the feeling their wedding day brought to the people they love. While a food scene might not be top of mind for a go-to wedding photo, we think this shot helps put the focus on the loved ones who made the day full of joy. This intimate elopement was “family only” at one of their favorite joints on the cape, Baxter’s. It was casual in the best way possible, Sheila arrived by boat and met Pat and their doggo at the base of the aisle. Quiet anticipation… How many times I’ve watched couples gaze out the window as guests start to filter in and take their seats – last minute details being completed… all of the waiting and planning has come to pass and it’s finally happening at last. Photo and caption by Brendan Bullock Photography.
This cake was made by the bride’s family and was simply beautiful. Surrounded by an intimate group of friends and family, the bride and groom cut the cake in the garden. Cutting the cake is so much fun, never fails to bring out lots of emotion. Photo and caption by Kelly Stevens Photo.

In this fleeting moment, pure joy took center stage. As she slipped the ring onto his hand, laughter bubbled over—unfiltered, unscripted, and full of love. I live for these in-between moments, where the beauty of the day isn’t just seen, but felt. Photo and Caption by Tayla Paige Photo.

This is the bride’s daughter and she REALLY wanted to be with her mom, who was getting dressed in the bathroom. She kept crying her mom’s name and rattling the doorknob to get in. One of the things I love most is getting to spend alone time with my couples right after the ceremony. The vibe is so relaxed and the relief they feel can visibly be seen in their body language. It makes for such emotional and fun images! The time we spend together is unposed and very organic. I prefer to use a long telephoto lens, with just conversation and minimal direction, to give them room to breathe and just enjoy each other.
