For this Chicago-based couple, returning to Maine for their wedding was the natural choice. Tyler grew up in Falmouth, and he and Hannah visited his parents there twice a year. “We’d take walks at Bug Light Park,” says Hannah, “so it’s a special place for us. And we wanted to do a Portland day for our guests.” That included an oyster-farm tour for family and wedding party on Friday, complete with freshly shucked oysters for a Seacoast treat.
Whimsical touches were everywhere at their wedding reception. From the martini tower and suspended “flower clouds” to mid-century-modern paper lanterns and custom napkins imprinted with Taylor Swift quotes, the day was all about kitschy fun. That included wedding-day transportation in a vintage Buick, a rental from the Maine Classic Car Museum in Arundel. “That was my dad’s idea. He used to work for GM and wanted a Buick,” says Hannah. And since she’s from Michigan, known for its cherries, Hannah had cherries accenting her wedding cake.
Her gown was a serendipitous choice, she says. “I had no idea what I wanted, and the salon just brings you dresses to try based on your input. I wanted to be comfortable and feel like myself, and this dress fit that perfectly.” Hannah says she had the sleeves added separately. “I also loved the freedom of the leg slit in front.” And the couple’s favorite memory of the day? “Our first dance,” says Hannah. “It was the perfect time, when we were so focused on each other.”
