Tip: Consider A “Show-Stopper” Cake
Overwhelmed by the idea—and cost—of a behemoth, multi-tiered cake for your wedding? Grace Angulas of Graceful Baking says you might want to consider a small-but-stunning show cake with extravagant decoration as the centerpiece of your dessert table. “These are usually two six- to eight-inch tiers with (edible) sugar gum-paste flowers that I create completely by hand,” she says. These handcrafted flowers are a high-dollar item, she explains. The end result is a detailed and artistic small cake that is perfect for cutting and doesn’t overshadow the couple in photos. Grace notes that a much less expensive sheet cake can be cut in the back room for guests.
