Each year, a lucky military couple is selected to be Seacoast Hitched Heroes. Wedding vendors donate their services as a thank you for the military couple’s service. This year, it was a family affair on the wedding day of Taryn and Calvin, 2023’s Hitched Heroes. The couple actually had been married 14 years when they finally were able to celebrate their vow renewals at Saltonstall Farm. The venue “fit us to a T,” says Taryn. “We have a mini farm back home (in North Carolina)—I don’t think I could have picked a better venue for us.”

Calvin’s sister Kate, who lives in Hopkinton, New Hampshire, nominated the couple for Seacoast Hitched Heroes. As an infantry soldier at 17 who culminated his 23-year military career as an Apache pilot, Calvin deployed to Iraq twice, Afghanistan twice, and Kuwait once. “Because of his service, they never had a traditional engagement or wedding, which has always been a dream of theirs,” says Kate.

The couple’s five children, ages six to 18, traveled to New Hampshire with their parents and took part in the vow renewal. “It made the wedding that much more special to have them all there and included in the day,” says Taryn. Since their first wedding 14 years ago was put together in less than two weeks on a shoestring budget, she adds that it was especially sweet to finally get an engagement ring from Calvin at their vow renewal. “He had been saving diligently for it!” says sister Kate.
