With meandering York River as a backdrop, Sarah and Brendan gathered with family and friends for a cozy, intimate wedding weekend. “We were looking for a comfy, fall-in-Maine vibe,” says Sarah. Hence the plaid flannel pajamas for all members of the wedding party, each top embroidered with their name. Sarah adds that Brendan’s friends and family are mostly women, so best woman Davana was part of an all-female wedding party in burgundy that included three attendants on each side. Flowers girls—all of them siblings or other family members—wore pale sage green.
“I told our planner we wanted a private-estate wedding venue, so every event could be in the same place without having to shuttle people around. This spot was perfect.” With guest rooms in a bungalow and farmhouse, Scotland Fields was able to accommodate 28 family and wedding-party members for the weekend, which included a Friday welcome barbecue, Saturday’s wedding, and a donuts-and-coffee sendoff on Sunday. The family-style reception dinner included Parmigiano-Reggiano Risotto and Braised Beef Short Ribs, and was held in the property’s upscale barn.
Sarah’s wedding dress had a detachable train, “great for the convenience of taking it off at the reception,” she says. A personalized denim jacket warded off the chill, and her lacy Converse All-Stars from Etsy were another fun touch. “Originally, I wanted to go barefoot,” she explains, “but
I was afraid my feet would freeze!”
