North Haven Island, ME
A serendipitous visit to North Haven Island and Turner Farm led Josh to discover the perfect wedding site. “I’d been there a few years before Laura and I met, and I thought, ‘Wow, this would be a great place to be married!’” says Josh. Laura adds, “It’s so special there. It felt like a destination wedding even though we were just off the mid-coast of Maine.” Some guests arrived by ferry, others by private charter boat—the only ways to arrive on-island. Most of their 44 guests stayed in three rented houses, and the couple and some family members stayed in the venue’s guesthouse.
As an organic farm, Turner Farm catered the event using its own beef, fresh vegetables, and other flavorful ingredients. “The chef used ingredients not typically found in wedding food,” Josh says. From North Haven oysters and lobster tostadas to roasted eggplant with ricotta and herbs, the menu had a decidedly farm-fresh bent.
Laura and Josh were able to steal away at the “golden hour” for some fabulous photos, which Laura remembers as a very special time together. “We got to enjoy that beautiful lighting,” she says. And Josh, who sang a capella in college, topped off the evening by surprising Laura and their guests with a song, “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles).”
