North Hampton, New Hampshire
Monica jokes that she met Dan “the old-fashioned way”—mingling at a Boston bar. The couple had been together for five years when Dan surprised Monica with a trip to Scotland for Thanksgiving. Another surprise awaited Monica after their arrival. With Edinburgh Castle behind him, Dan proposed. “He must’ve hidden the ring in his luggage,” Monica says.
Monica was eager to marry on the New Hampshire Seacoast, where she grew up. The couple exchanged vows on a hot summer day in the picturesque Union Chapel on Little Boar’s Head, overlooking the ocean. Afterwards, the couple and their 60 guests boarded trolleys to dinner and dancing at Mombo Restaurant, next to historic Strawbery Banke Museum in Portsmouth. “It was just the right size,” says Monica. “I wanted to talk to everyone and eat instead of shaking everyone’s hand for two hours.”
Afterwards the party moved a few blocks away to the Hotel Portsmouth, where Monica’s dad took over the basement bar and made martinis
for everyone.
“We had everyone we loved there,” says Monica. “The day was perfect.”
