Virginia Robbins + Derek Olson

October 13, 2018

Harpswell, Maine

Despite meeting in a very 21st century manner—through the dating app OK Cupid—Ginny and Derek’s wedding was filled with nostalgic details.

Owner of a vintage clothing store in Chicago, Ginny’s roots are in Maine, where her family owns a lakeside camp. Derek proposed one day during late summer, as the couple was standing on the dock for their final moments of the season at the lake. “I decided to ask her right there,” says Derek.

A small group of family and friends joined the couple for a weekend-long wedding celebration at picturesque Live Well Farm in Harpswell, Maine. The farm—with its rambling farmhouse, antique barn, rolling meadows and splendid fall foliage—was a charming backdrop to the festivities, perfect for a couple who appreciate all things vintage. Details included Ginny’s beautiful hand-embroidered wedding dress, dating to 1918; her Victorian-era jewelry, gifts from Derek; and Derek’s tie, suit and cuff links from a men’s vintage clothing store.

Despite the cold and rainy start to their wedding day, the sun came out just before the couple’s outdoor garden ceremony—as did a rainbow. “It ended up being perfect,” says Ginny. “It was great to have all the people we like in one place.”
