Kate jokes that it was Mitch’s beard that initially attracted her to his Match.com profile. Fortunately, he was also smart, funny, and worth going out with, she says, nothing “He was the right person to be around.”
Kate grew up near the water in Portsmouth, NH, and she and Mitch both wanted to be married in a Seacoast community. They were especially entranced by the rough wooden beams and unfinished beauty of the Portland Company, an event space in a former warehouse in Portland’s Old Port. “It felt like a cathedral,” says Kate.
Working with Emily Hricko of Emily Elizabeth Events of Portland, they brought in furniture and accessories that created a warm, welcoming setting. Their most memorable moment was right before the ceremony, as they watched their guests gather. Tucked away from the guests, in a secluded spot overlooking the ceremony space, they enjoyed a moment alone before the festivities began. “I’m glad we were there to share that moment together,” says Mitch. “We’re really kind of shy so it was nice to do that before the ceremony.
