Shine A Light On It

Your wedding day is one of the most important of your life. Eating good food, wearing the “perfect” dress, and being surrounded by friends and family are all pivotal components of this special event. Event planner Kate Malloy reminds us of another equally important aspect of your wedding: “Good lighting can make all the difference in the overall look and feel of your wedding.”

Lighting can entirely transform a space. The color of light you use, what is illuminated by it and how bright it is dictates the ambiance of the entire space. “For tented weddings, I love paper lanterns. They’re not overly expensive, they bring the eye into the ceiling of the tent, and they create a warm and romantic feel to the reception. For indoor receptions, I love bringing in projections of patterns either to walls or floors. Projections add drama, texture and transform a space.”

When choosing lighting for your wedding, think about what mood you’re trying to convey. “Are you looking for drama or are you looking to add romance to your reception tent? Different types of lighting will create very different moods.” For example paper lanterns are more romantic than LED lights, which add drama and flair. The right lighting is key to creating a magical evening.

What lighting will you use to transform your wedding?
