Alyssa Dethlefs and Erin Ryan

June 11th, 2016
Danvers, MA

Aly and Erin’s lush garden wedding was nearly a washout. Aly was Erin’s resident assistant at Plymouth State University in New Hampshire when they started dating. “I was a sophomore and he was a freshman,” she says. “It was pretty scandalous!” The couple dated for five years and then took a trip to Ireland, where Aly was convinced Erin would propose. He did- but waited until the last night they were in town. “I was thinking how could he pass up Ireland as a place to propose, then he got down on one knee while I was taking a pictures,” she says.

Glen Magna, a historic home and garden in Danvers, MA, was the ideal site for the garden wedding Aly wanted. The couple and their 100 guests had the entire property to themselves. The ceremony and dancing were outside in the gardens, lush with spring flowers; the reception and dinner were held inside. Everything went off as planned- except the weather. “It poured,” Aly says. Then, right before the ceremony, the rain stopped, a last-minute surprise. “I didn’t care. I would’ve gotten married in the rain,” Aly says. In the end, it worked out after all.
