Celeste and Gordon’s wedding was a true family affair. They both come from large families and wanted to accommodate as many people as possible at their wedding; they also wanted to get married in Maine. “We looked at venues up and down the coast and decided on my parents’ home for sentimental reasons,” says Celeste. “It was a nice opportunity to work with them on what turned out to be the perfect wedding.”
Stacking wood, digging up rocks, staining an outdoor deck: not the romantic details many brides think of when planning a wedding, but to Celeste and Gordon, “it was the best gift my parents could’ve given us,” says Celeste. They worked with her parents, Melanie and Gordon, almost weekly to get their York home ready for the wedding. Personal touches made the day special. The ceremony was held at the First Parish Church in York center; afterwards, the couple rode in a vintage Mercedes convertible through town to the Ladd home. Dining and dancing was outdoors near the house. A buffet including lobster roll sliders, charcuterie, fish, chicken and steak satisfied hungry guests. A dessert bar included mouthwatering doughnuts from Congdon Bakery (a favorite of the couple), whoopie pies, handmade biscotti and Italian cookies. “When all was said and done, we couldn’t imagine doing the wedding any differently,” says Celeste.
