Jason and Katelyn wanted their wedding celebration to reflect their love of the outdoors and their individuality. The couple, who’ve known each other for 10 years, met through Jason’s brother, Bryan. They got engaged in April 2014, as Katelyn was preparing to take helicopter flying lessons. Jason planned to propose during a lesson but windy weather forced him to make alternative plans. Instead, he proposed after the couple took in a show in Boston. “Much less terrifying than proposing on a helicopter!” says Katelyn.

The couple had their ceremony and reception at the Rocks Estate, a rural property that’s also a Christmas tree farm and maple sugar producer, in northwest New Hampshire. The diverse landscape appealed to the couple, who handled many of the wedding details themselves. Together with Katelyn’s sister Morgan (an artist), her mother, and friends, the couple created fun details like save-the-date cards, animal-themed table settings and centerpieces, decorations, favors, and a photo booth. Jason even brewed his own beer for the occasion. The couple had access to the property for three days so they took a day to decorate, had their ceremony for friends and family on Friday evening, then a reception for 75 on Saturday afternoon. “It was less crazy,” says Katelyn. And, in the end, just right.
