Even before she was engaged, Whitney loved weddings. “I help my friends with all of theirs,” says the culinary school graduate. So when she and Mathew got engaged in 2013, she happily went into wedding overload. Both Maine natives, the couple met at the University of Maine; they wanted a Maine-themed wedding with a nautical focus. The Maine Maritime Museum in Bath provided the perfect backdrop for waterside nuptials; their reception was held under a tent near the museum’s shipyard.

Whitney and Mathew worked diligently to make sure the wedding reflected the best of Maine, from food to favors. Guests sat at tables named for places that the couple has visited (like Dublin, Spain and Mexico) and took home blueberry jam made by Whitney’s mom. The couple served blueberry pie, instead of a traditional wedding cake (they did have a small cake, topped by a lobster bride and groom). Pinky Dee’s, a food truck from Lewiston, served late-night snacks nicknamed “Whitney and Mike Specials” including poutine, shredded pork tacos and fried dough. The day ended with fireworks over the ocean, courtesy of  Mathew’s uncle.
