Amanda and Colby share a mutual love of dodge ball – that’s how they met – and fun. They dated for seven years before Colby proposed to Amanda during a Labor Day cookout, in front of 65 people, including Amanda’s family. The couple was the last of their friends to get married. “We’d been to a total of 35 weddings in the last four years, we’ve seen it all,” says Amanda. “We loved every single one of them so we knew what we liked and didn’t like.”
The couple wanted an easy-going celebration that reflected their love of Portsmouth. The ceremony was at South Church, the reception at a family friend’s home in Greenland. The couple had photos taken at Prescott Park, a local landmark, and in front of a nearby fire station (Amanda liked the color contrast with the red fire engines and red brick walls). The day was also colorful – on purpose. From her blue, yellow and white bouquet to the wheatgrass centerpieces at the reception, “We wanted color everywhere,” says Amanda. She wore a blush pink dress, her attendants wore different shades of green; Colby and his groomsmen wore navy suits and green ties. Guests enjoyed a cigar bar at the reception, crullers from Lil’s Cafe in Kittery instead of cake, and dinner and dancing. “The evening was casual and easygoing, definitely the best party we’ve ever thrown,” says Amanda.
