Welcome back! Here is part two of my Reflections on France blog. Thank you for following these updates! Enjoy the post, and check back on ‘A Trip to France’ as well as ‘Reflections on France, part 1’ for refreshers!

During our stay there, I reflected on modern relationships. Here I had my brother, who took a major leap of faith and joined the French Foreign Legion when he was 19, and it brought him into a multi-national relationship with a French-American daughter (who is just the sweetest girl in the world, might I add). They would have never met if it weren’t for him taking the risk that he did. Many people tried to discourage him from going, but it led him on this beautiful journey, which seems to have only just begun.

At one point, I asked my brother, “When did you know you were in love with Laura?” After some hesitation, he told us about the first time he did a tour in Abu Dhabi. “She waited for me when she didn’t have to,” he said. “She had nothing to worry about, but she still waited for me.” That was when he knew he was with someone that would be with him through the good times and the bad times. Bringing our families together was a special opportunity to see the new world that they had created for themselves that spans across country lines. A relationship that is not defined by boarders just may be the new modern relationship.

Our time in France was beautiful and engaging, as expected. We toured castles and ate French food and saw the beautiful countryside that allows you to see for miles and then mountains. Being with my new extended family was wonderful, and I can’t wait to go back!
