Camden, ME
Laura and Chris wanted a waterfront wedding celebration evoking a festive, black and gold-themed cocktail party for themselves, their friends, and family, many of whom – on Chris’s side – were traveling from the Netherlands. Laura’s family has lived in and around Camden, ME, for five generations so the Camden Yacht Club, where Laura learned to sail as a girl, was a logical choice for their ceremony and reception. An added celebratory touch: the Camden International Film Festival coincided with the wedding weekend, drawing hundreds of visitors, in addition to the couple’s wedding guests, to the quaint seaside town. “With all the film people, international press and out-of-towners, we felt like we were getting married in Cannes,” Chris notes.
As a tribute to her late father, who loved Broadway musicals, Laura walked down the aisle alone to the theme from “Hello Dolly!” (the couple returned up the aisle to a vampier version of the song). The warm, sunny weather was an added bonus. “We think our fathers, who have both passed away, were looking out for us and provided the sunshine,” says Laura. “The day was exactly what we wanted.”
