Welcome back, everyone! You may remember me from my ‘A Quick Trip to France’ blog, where I, Stephanie Kuhn, went to France to celebrate the union of my brother and his fiancé. We said we would keep you posted, so here is the first part of a two-blog series about my trip! Enjoy.

After traveling for a total of 24 hours straight, my mom and I had finally arrived at our destination in Toulouse, France. Greeted by my brother, Derek, and his fiancé, Laura, we left the airport exhausted and fell asleep in the car ride to her parents’ house. It took us a few days to recover from jet lag, but it was without a doubt worth it, especially since I was able to meet my five and a half month old niece, Jade (with a soft ‘j,’ per French pronunciation). She was the angel we had anticipated her to be!

The next day, the family festivities began. We were introduced to how families have their meals in France (or at least this family), which began with small appetizers of fresh olives and a light salad, followed by heftier plates of meats and bred. We ate more baguettes than I am proud to say, and each meal was finished with strong cheeses and yogurt or pudding. Most of our time spent with everyone included eating food and drinking amazing coffee. Needless to say, I will need to work on cutting back now that I’m back in the States!

The south of France is absolutely stunning. We took walks around lakes and looked at the Pyrenees mountains as families from two different countries came together. Laura’s family does not know English and our family does not know French, so verbal conversation was limited. Fortunately in those situations, you learn the power of nonverbal communication and that is sometimes all you need.
And there is more to come! Stay tuned for part 2! For a refresher on my trip introduction, click here.
