Will You Marry Me?

Heidi & Alex, Madbury, NH

Alex had chosen May 20th, 2012, to propose to Heidi. The preparations were so complex that he started his planning back in February. He first made a list of the 12 key things he would need to pull off his proposal scheme, including a trolley, a hidden camera, permission from the U.S. Coast Guard, a 12’ x 15’ picture of him and his soon-to-be fiancée, and 30 friends and family who could keep a secret. May 20th began with a text message from friends asking if the couple wanted to meet for brunch in Rye at 11. When the friends texted them en route to say they “were running late,” Alex suggested to Heidi that they kill time by driving to the New Castle Lighthouse; she didn’t know he had arranged with the Coast Guard to get inside. When they arrived at the lighthouse, Alex texted his friend to let them know they had arrived. When they got to the top, another text went
out. Heidi looked down to see friends and family holding up a giant puzzle of a picture of her and Alex. Then they flipped the cards to reveal the question “Heidi, will you marry me?” After tears, hugs, handshakes and kisses, the newly engaged couple and friends and family boarded an awaiting trolley to head to the Wentworth-by-the-Sea for an all-you-can-eat brunch and bottomless mimosas. The only hitch in Alex’s complex plan will come on May 25, 2013.
